I do a lot of Audio->Midi for chord voicings of guitars and pianos. So when you do the Rip, and it displays the Midi pitches on the "Keyboard" interface, you can select individual notes. When a note is selected, you hear that note's contribution to the sound. This is a good thing to use. What would help me out is if one could continually play only the selected notes, without playing the unselected notes. Either I don't know how to do this, or it can't be done. If the latter, this would be a feature recommendation.

What I can do now is Copy all of the selected notes into the paste buffer, and paste them into a new empty project. then I can delete them one at a time, when I find a note that is not really making a contribution to the chord. But it would go faster if I could do the thing I described in my first paragraph.

Thank you

Hi Guys,

My objective is to create as accurate a midi file as possibe of the song "Machine Gun" by the Commodores ***including the tempo***.

I actually bought RipX sometime back mainly for that purpose. But in my ignorance I used Ripx wrongly. I made stems, imported them into Studio One and then used Melodyne to make midi from each stem. It worked, but badly. I then had the epiphany that Ripx could make midi files directly. I know, I'm a slow learner.

OK, so I dumped the audio of Machine Gun into Ripx, and very soon I got a message telling me that Ripx had used an improved algorythm to line up the bars - and it had. The bars lined up with the audio in a very musical way. All good - better than good actually!

But when I imported the midi file created by RipX into Studio One I found that the tracks all played at a uniform 120bpm which is the default tempo of S1. This was so whether I exported simple or detailed midi.

120 is not the tempo of Machine Gun. Machine Gun was made in 1975 and there were no click tracks - this is a very good thing! Actually the tempo moves around very musically between 111 and 115 and it is very groovy indeed!

So here is my point and my question.

In order to get the barlines right RipX must have made a tempo track, but apparently it does not get exported with the midi file, so the midi will not track with the audio...Why? Is there a way round this?

Actually I have tried to get round this myself. I created a tempo track using Melodyne and then imported the midi file from Ripx into the S12 session, but the midi tracks were unresponsive to the tempo track - I repeat, this was so whether I used simple or detailed midi.

OK, so you see my problem. Is there a way round this? I am on RipX basic 803. Will it help if I upgrade?

Regards

Adrian
