Hi,

I am presently using the  21 day trial (Pro)

I am trying to separate lead from backup vocals. Problem is I am not sure how to select  either one of those.

(Pic attached... lead is single line (tan) and backup are 3 tan lines above.)

Also, wondering if I can actually do this with DAW or do I need Pro?

thanks in advance!

Randy

If they have different stereo positions, you can use the FX Panel’s Stereo Pass filter effect to separate them. Otherwise, it’s possible to separate them by listening to them, selecting them and then assigning them to another layer by clicking on the appropriate arrow button in the Layers Panel. A new layer can be added to the Layers Panel by clicking ‘Add’ beneath the list of layers.

thanks David, this is all new to me... so not sure how to SELECT the whole of the lead singer..  How do I do that?

And also,  will I be able to do that with Ripx DAW?

Once you've assigned the lead singer's notes to their own layer, you can select them all by clicking on that layer in the Layers Panel (to select it) then pressing Cmd-Shift-A on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+A on Windows. Before that, you would need to select them by clicking and Cmd/Ctrl clicking on the individual notes (or by clicking & dragging a selection rectangle over them, if possible).

This can all be done with RipX DAW.

thanks David, but  still not sure how to assign  lead notes to its own layer.

If I hit  Ctrl+Shift+A on the voice layer,  lead and backup vocals are all selected.

But, no problem, I found a work around.... I just deleted  all the lead notes and was left with the background vocals... this worked well.

Here are more detailed instructions:

  1. To create a new layer, hover the mouse pointer over the title bar of the Layers Panel (e.g. where it says Layers).
  2. Click on the + icon that appears on the right-hand side.
  3. Enter the name for the new layer (e.g. Lead Voice) and click OK.
  4. Click on notes (or click & drag over them) to listen to them and decide which layer they should be in.
  5. While they are still selected, hover the mouse pointer over the name of that layer in the Layers Panel (e.g. Lead Voice).
  6. Click on the arrow button that appears on the right-hand side.

You can mute a layer that you don't want to export or hear during playback by hovering the mouse pointer over the name of that layer in the Layers Panel and clicking on the M that appears to the right.
